CCT and Maternal Mental Health Week

Croydon Cycle Theatre will be holding an evening of entertainment and discussion on Wednesday 2 May 2018 to mark the UK Maternal Mental Health Awareness Week and World Maternal Mental Health Day. The event at Matthews Yard will raise awareness of maternal mental health issues and access to support.

Featuring comedy, performance, music, and an expert panel discussion, ‘The Village’ event will provide a space to raise awareness and share experiences of maternal mental health. It will also focus on the week’s theme of ‘Support for All’ to explore how we can work together to remove barriers to services in the local community and ensure access for all.

Croydon Cycle Theatre co-founder Amy Foster commented: “With at least 20% of women experiencing mental health issues in pregnancy or after birth and many not receiving the support they need, it’s important that we raise awareness about this issue. I’ve personally been learning a lot about perinatal mental health recently and am trying my best to better understand and be involved any way I can.

“This year, Croydon Cycle Theatre has been very much focusing on Croydon’s community and how it supports women as part of our #Vote100 season. We hope ‘The Village’ will bring Croydonians together, sharing unique perspectives on motherhood, to make our community safer and stronger for all of us.”

Comedian Hatty Ashdown, who will be performing, commented:

“Events like Maternal Mental Health Week are important so women know they are not alone and because it’s important to ask questions. It can be a lottery, the healthcare you get.”

Futher infomation about the event lineup and tickets for the “The Village” are available at https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/the-village-tickets-44789778433.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the specialist Mother and Baby Unit at the Bethlem Royal Hospital, part of the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust.
